Church Narrative Project: “Real stories change lives”

By | Celebration

Our church hosted a conference on March 10-11 for the Church Narrative Project. Leaders from around Indiana, Wisconsin, and Michigan were present. Our General Minister and President, Terri Hord Owens, came and spoke. Our Regional Minister, Teresa Dulyea-Parker, took part in the event. Other Disciple leaders from around the country provided the guidance for the sessions. So this was no lightweight conference. We were hosts for people of some consequence.

And here’s the thing: United Christian Church received high praise for our hospitality. We provided food that served people who had a wide variety of needs. We provided clean space for gathering, for worship, for conversations. We greeted people as they came in; we blessed them as they left. We responded quickly to many different needs. And a good number of our members took part in the workshop. Pastor King even told one of the stories that began the event, under the heading “Real stories change lives.”

Some participants even told us they wanted to come back and find out more about United.

A big thanks goes out to everyone who took part: prepared and served food, cleaned up afterwards, moved furniture and equipment, helped set up the communications, greeted at the door, blessed at departure, or supported the event in prayer. You helped make the setting wonderful for a good workshop.

Reading Scripture with Pastor King

By | Attention

Here’s an opportunity to come in to worship prepared.

Pastor King will be studying and preaching on texts in the Gospel of Matthew through the Lent season. So here is your opportunity to read ahead of Sunday’s sermon, to study in advance, to be prepared to listen in a different way. The schedule is as follows (the readings are for a full week; the Sunday is the day after each week and before the next):

And one more opportunity: If you would like to hear Pastor King’s further study into each passage, and if you would like to ask questions and bounce your ideas back to the whole group, you can join us at Bible study each Wednesday at 6 pm on Zoom.

United Christian Church to host conference

Our church will be host to a conference on March 10 – 11 to tell and listen to our stories and to talk about our shared tranforming future together.

On Friday night we will be led in a Story Hour by Rev. Rebecca Anderson of Gilead Chicago. On Saturday we will be lead by Dr. David Anderson Hooker, working to help Disciples shape a shared future story. And the best part–instead of traveling great distances, United Christian Church Country Club Hills will host the gathering.

The Story Hour will be livecast to the YouTube and Facebook pages of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
