Our Thanksgiving Mission offering goes to support Disciples of Christ colleges, universities, and seminaries.
“For all the saints who from their labor rest,
who thee by faith before the world confessed,
thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia! Alleluia!: –William Walsham
Just a reminder: Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, November 5. We will fall back one hour, so the night before be sure you reset your clocks. But don’t worry; if you show up early for church, we’ll still be glad to have you here!
It was cold, but it wasn’t raining. So about 50 kids — about 35 families — came out to show off costumes and collect on the treats offered by members of United Christian Church and our neighbors, Jeremiah Temple Church. Oh, and hot chocolate! The cocoa was the hit of the day with adults and some of the children. Here are some memories:
Our annual Trunk or Treat event will be Saturday, October 28, from 1 – 3 PM. This is a community outreach project, providing families in our neighborhood with a safe trick or treat environment — and an invitation to visit with our church.
As always, we need volunteers to make this work. Volunteers need to be available at 12:30 PM to begin setup. You can decorate your trunk, you can costume yourself, and you can meet and have fun with the children and families in our community.
The COVID clinics will resume on Saturday, Oct. 14, with the new and updated vaccines.
This is an outreach to our members and to the community at large. Our goal is to bring healing to the South Suburbs in the midst of the continuing endemic.
A congregational meeting has been called for Sunday, October 22, immediately following the Sunday worship service. The purpose is to consider receiving a grant awarded to United Christian Church for developing a full time ministry to students. All members are urged to attend.
The grant is generous, and the grantor requests anonymity. The grant takes the form of $8,000 per month with the following designations:
-
$5,000 for a full time youth minister
-
$2,000 for support to the senior pastor to allow for supervision responsibilities
-
$1,000 for music support.
The gifts would be for 36 months, a three year time period for developing this ministry. The grantor has apparently visited our church and considers this fellowship capable of bringing quality ministry to the students within our reach. All members and friends are urged to pray guidance. The next step would require formal acceptance of the grant.
